Fertilizers Europe (FE) has issued a press release stating that the European Commission's (EC) announcement that it will propose exports under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) lacks the urgency and clarity required by the fertilizer sector. FE urges the Commission to urgently present a legislative proposal that guarantees sector-specific solutions with immediate effect.

Antoine Hoxha, Director General of FE, stated that the European association appreciates the Commission's intention to address the concerns raised by the fertilizer sector, but that time is running out. The European industry competes on an uneven playing field with global players who are not subject to equivalent climate costs and who benefit from lower energy prices. By further delaying the process of addressing the export challenges facing CBAM sectors, Europe will accelerate the loss of export markets, further deteriorate the competitiveness of the local sector, and, in turn, undermine the European industry's ability to invest in clean technologies.

FE also points out that the European fertilizer industry is willing to collaborate constructively with the EC to ensure that its proposal offers a solid and reliable export solution for European exporters.
